June 2019 Skincare Discoveries

June Skincare!

Hello citizens! Welcome to my new website! This will be the inaugural post, as I just wanted to start posting things and I've been really focused on skincare lately.

Since it's summer, there has been a large focus on sun protection and keeping safe from UVA and UVB rays in addition to other regular skin concerns. In any case, yadda yadda yadda, skincare trends and whatever fluff makes for a nice but ultimately useless introduction.

This is the stuff I've been excited to find this month!

Dermstore's June Beauty Fix Subscription Box

I've been trying out new beauty and wellness subscription products the last few months and this is one of my favorites so far. Beauty subscription boxes usually vary in quality depending on the month, and this is my first box from Beauty Fix, so take this with a grain of salt, but if they can keep up even 70% of the quality of June's box in the future, then it's more than worth the money.

Below is a picture of all the products you get from the box.

Lots of full size products, reputable brands, and most of the products have rave reviews online. Only caveat is that you can't specify colors, which is annoying when it comes to things like the powder sunscreen that need to match your skin tone.

The ordering process and shipping times were also clean, convenient and professional.

So far, 10/10 skincare experience.

Brush On Powder Sunscreen

This was a product I learned about recently that I was really excited to try. I saw a dermatologist on YouTube talk about how she used this reapply sunscreen on over the course of the day, and I thought it was a great idea.

Reapplying sunscreen has been a problem that I've tried a few different approaches for. I don't like how incredibly inconvenient reapplying sunscreen is, but I would like to make it a habit to keep up my sun protection throughout the day. I don't really like having to rub my face in public if I haven't freshly washed my hands, but that adds another step to applying sunscreen that deters me from a task that I already have problems with accomplishing consistently. I've tried stick sunscreens, which are pretty goods, but still requires some smoothing out with your hands to avoid overly heavy coverage and patchy sports.

Behold

So this was in the Beauty Fix box for June and I am super excited to try it out. It retails for $65, but there are definitely more affordable options for powder sunscreen. Before finding out that a powder sunscreen would be included in the Beauty Fix box I was eyeing products from Tarte and DERMA-E that are much more affordable if you're interested.

Azelaic Acid

I have a long relationship with acne and have yet to find a skincare routine to clear my skin. Since it's summer vacation and I have more free time, I decided to focus on trying to find a lasting solution for my skincare routine. After watching lots of skincare videos on YouTube I learned about azelaic acid.

I decided to go with a product from The Ordinary

It's apparently good for controlling inflamed acne (which I have) and works by killing the bacteria that cause acne (which is good because I'm a germaphobe). Here's a link to Mayo Clinic if you want to look at the info yourself: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/azelaic-acid-topical-route/description/drg-20062084

Lots of people use this as their holy grail for acne treatment and I'm excited to see why. Plus trying new skincare is just fun in general.

I'll update with posts on my opinions of these products after I try them out for a few weeks.

That's all for now, see you guys in the next blog post!
